Thankfully not Me

I took my first Krav Maga class today.  For those not in the know Krav Maga is a self defense style originally developed by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF).  It's been tweaked for civilian use but it's still a kick butt ruthless martial art.  No holds barred doesn't do the techniques justice, so I've included a little video below (thanks youtube!):

After one class the first thing I realized is "Damn I'm out of shape", the second is how different the general approach of Krav Maga is.  In all of the other styles I've tried - Karate, Judo, Brazilian JuJitsu, Boxing, Mui Thai, and Jet Kune Do a lot of time is spent perfecting technique, the "perfect" way to punch, kick or use leverage to throw an oppenent.  So far (it's only day one, I know) but Krav Maga's focus is on removing yourself from the line of attack and then using whatever attack feels natural.  So if it's open, go for the kick, the knee, elbow strike, eye gouge, hammer punch, etc etc.  It is a very interesting approach and one I look forward to learning more about.
